Elon Musk on Artificial Intelligence: “The pace of progress in artificial intelligence is incredibly fast”

We’ve said it before: Elon Musk is a pretty smart guy (understatement much?). The CEO of SpaceX and Tesla Motors is essentially what we would liken to a real-life Tony Stark; if he came out wearing an Iron Man suit tomorrow, nobody would be surprised. So when he spoke candidly about artificial intelligence, warning that its progress is much quicker than any of us realize, possibly posing a danger to humanity, we were bound to get more than a little worried. In a series of emails to Edge.org publisher, John Brockman, that were erroneously shared, Musk puts a timeline on when he sees the development of artificial intelligence becoming worrisome. “The risk of something seriously dangerous happening is in the five year timeframe. 10 years at most… Please note that I am normally super pro technology and have never raised this issue until recent months. This is not a case of crying wolf ...

Elon Musk teases the Tesla Model D and ‘something else’ for announcement on Oct 9th

Tesla CEO, Elon Musk, is very smart man, but has proven that he has a sense of humour too. In a recent interview, he claimed he wanted to call the Model III the Model E so that Tesla’s line-up would consist of the Model S, E and X. Yes, that’s right – real life’s Tony Stark is also childish and hilarious. So it’s almost poetic irony that Musk would tweet the following regarding the Tesla Model D‘s announcement: About time to unveil the D and something else pic.twitter.com/qp23yi59i6 — Elon Musk (@elonmusk) October 2, 2014 The tweet set Twitter on fire, not only because Tesla was about the announce something new, but because of the unintentional suggestiveness of the tweet. Suffice to say Musk eventually realized the hilarity of the tweet and posted: I love the Internet. Comments had me literally ROFL. No, it wasn’t intentional. Glad I didn’t mention the other ...

The Tesla Model III will be Tesla’s entry into mainstream electric cars

There’s been a lot of chatter in the press recently about the Tesla and the Tesla Model S with crazy crashes and lead footed people driving into signs. Now Elon Musk wants to get competitive.  The problem has been its price tag!  The Tesla Model S is not exactly accessible to all walks of life, making its penetration into the mainstream automotive industry somewhat minimal. Cue the $35,000 Tesla Model III. In an interview with AutoExpress, Tesla CEO, Elon Musk, confirmed that Tesla’s third vehicle (after the Model X) is going to be called the Model III: Confirmed: Our Gen III car, due out after Model X, will be named Model 3. http://t.co/PLhUzycSlp pic.twitter.com/noZf17LXre — Tesla Motors (@TeslaMotors) July 16, 2014 The car was previously rumoured to be named the Model E instead, but in a very frank response, Musk revealed exactly why it now called the Model III: “We had the model S for sedan ...

Tesla Model S crashed

Oh dear: Tesla Model S crashed at Tesla dealership shortly after being picked up

Of all the things to do when picking up your brand new Tesla Model S, I’m assuming “driving it carefully” is probably right at the top of the list. Well, the above image has inexplicably greeted Reddit user, s1lentway, as he visited a Tesla dealership yesterday. In the words of s1lentway: “Just a little context. We believe this is someone who just got their car. They must have been driving it for less than a minute and lost control, crashing right into the sign missing the show room glass windows only by a few inches. Not the way you want to start out driving a brand new $70K + car that took a few months to make for you.” This rather unusual accident comes just days after the first ever driver fatality in a Model S was recorded. And while there may be a little more to the story here than meets the ...

A high-speed Tesla car chase ends with first fatality in a Tesla Model S

The Tesla Model S has so far had a perfect record of keeping its occupants out of harm’s way, however that streak came to an end after a stolen Model S became part of a high speed chase and crash which claimed the life of driver, Joshua Michael Flot. The crash occurred in Los Angeles this week after Flot allegedly stole the Model S from a Tesla service centre, was chased by police through the city, before crashing at high speed into two vehicles and subsequently hitting a steel pole, tearing the car in two. Flot was thrown from the vehicle and succumbed to his injuries from the crash, which also injured seven other people. Above is a photograph taken of the crash scene. The crash was so intense that a fire was ignited within the Model S, which has reignited safety concerns with electric cars like the Model S, despite the fact Tesla ...
