Halo: The Master Chief Collection

343 Industries: “Halo: The Master Chief Collection is definitely a black eye for us”

343 Industries has only had 2 major projects released since becoming stewards of the iconic Halo video game franchise. One was the very impressive Halo 4 on the Xbox 360 just before the new generation of consoles came into effect, and the other was Halo: The Master Chief Collection, a collection of every first-person shooter Halo game to date (except Halo: Reach) jam-packed into one game. As many of you will have heard, the latter was a pretty disastrous experience for everyone, the primary culprit being significant matchmaking and network issues. So much so that 343 Industries Franchise Development Director, Frank O’Connor, has admitted that “Halo: The Master Chief Collection is definitely a black eye for us”. It was no small task to combine all these games, but 343 Industries persisted. “I will say that the nature of The Master Chief Collection – you’ve got five different game engines, you’ve got different ...

Halo 3: ODST

343 Industries says Halo 3: ODST will join the Master Chief Collection next month

Halo: The Master Chief Collection hasn’t had the best track record, to say the least. Marred by severe multiplayer issues long after the game’s release, 343 Industries and Microsoft tried to placate loyal players by saying that they would eventually release Halo 3: ODST as a free add-on to the Master Chief Collection. Well, that time is almost upon us now after 343 Industries announced on Halo Waypoint that the remastered Halo 3: ODST would be dropping sometime next month, as well as a remake of the Relic multiplayer map from Halo 2. For the record, if you bought and played the Master Chief Collection between November 11th and December 19th, you will be eligible to get Halo 3: ODST for free. 343 Industries probably bit off a little more than it could chew releasing all four Halo games, despite only having made one of them, and expected all of it to work flawlessly. ...

Halo 3: ODST

Microsoft is remastering Halo 3: ODST to apologize for poor Master Chief Collection experience

To say that the release of Halo: The Master Chief Collection on Xbox One has been a bumpy ride for Microsoft and 343 Industries would be an severe understatement. While it’s no Assassin’s Creed Unity, the Master Chief Collection owners have had to suffer through almost a month and a half of broken and unreliable multiplayer, which is decidedly unacceptable for a game that has swung many away from the Xbox’s greatest rival, the PS4. Clearly, both developer and publisher are truly sorry, with Bonnie Rose, head of 343 Industries, saying that the Master Chief Collection’s dismal showing has been “a humbling experience and highlighted how we as a studio can — and need — to do better for Xbox fans around the world.” To help make amends, Microsoft and 343 Industries have something in store for those who have already invested in the game. For those who have played the ...

halo 2 anniversary

343 Industries shows off revamped “Lockout” map from Halo 2 Anniversary

Possibly almost as anticipated as the next chapter in the Halo saga, Halo 5: Guardians,  is Halo: The Master Chief Collection, a box that will contain Halos 1 through 4, all with revamped graphics to match the graphical prowess afforded to them on the Xbox One. Chief among the exciting things included in the Collection is Halo 2 Anniversary, which is going to get some extremely special treatment, not only because it was released 10 years ago, but because it was originally released on the original Xbox. We’ve already seen how some of the cinematics are going to look, but Microsoft and 343 Industries have been slowly showing off the graphically revamped multiplayer maps, and this time it’s Lockout’s turn – Ascension, Coagulation, Zanzibar and Sanctuary are the maps that have already been unveiled. Lockout was a fan favourite in the Halo community as it was a brilliant map for close-quarters action. The ...

Halo 2 Anniversary Cinematic Trailer

My eyes are raining: The Halo 2 Anniversary Cinematic Trailer looks absolutely gorgeous

Halo fans everywhere gave a collective cheer when Microsoft and 343 Industries announced Halo: The Master Chief Collection at E3 2014. The game will bring the storied franchise to the Xbox One, and encompasses the entirety of the series from Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary right through to Halo 4. While the original Halo previously got the Anniversary upgrade, Halo 2 will also be getting the same refresh, graphics and all, and the first preview of this was unveiled earlier today with the Halo 2 Anniversary Cinematic Trailer. Note: Make sure you watch this in 1080p!!! The cut-scenes included in this trailer were worked on Blur Studio, and you can really see the striking difference that 10 years has made in terms of graphical prowess. I’m particularly impressed with the upgraded facial animations (Sangheili included), but it’s hard to point out anything that isn’t incredibly impressive about what’s in the trailer. Cinematics aside, I ...

Halo: Nightfall

Halo: Nightfall gets a foreboding trailer and images at SDCC 2014

There’s a lot of cool stuff happening at San Diego Comic Con right now. High on that list, for me at least, was 343 Industries and Scott Free Productions unveiling footage of the upcoming live-action mini-series, Halo: Nightfall. Set between the Halo 4 and Halo 5 video games, the series follows the story of ONI agent, Jameson Locke (played by Mike Colter) as they investigate the existence of an “element” that specifically targets and kills humans. Check out the first look footage that was shown at SDCC: Locke is set to take a starring role in Halo 5: Guardians when it is released on Xbox One in 2015, but it looks like he’s going to have to go through a lot before that even happens, and it looks like they’ll be doing it, naturally, on a Halo ring. 343 Industries and Scott Free Productions also released a number of images from the mini-series ...
