update to Destiny before House of Wolves

Bungie promises another update to Destiny before House of Wolves, makes lots of spaceship puns

Update 1.1.1 arrived on Destiny last week to surprisingly wide acclaim, however Bungie isn’t resting on its laurels, promising another update to Destiny before House of Wolves. The House of Wolves expansion DLC is expected to be unleashed sometime between April and June of this year, so this next major update would need to be big enough to tide players over for another month or two. While Bungie stopped short of explicitly mentioning anything included in the next update, the blog post did appear to make a lot of references to the ships in the game and associated metaphors: “Now that 1.1.1 has been tucked in below decks, we can line up the next “release candidate” for final approach.” “But, before the House of Wolves begins its own descent through the stratosphere with precious cargo in tow, you can expect another Destiny Update to come in for a landing.” “I’m going ...

spending 3 hours on Destiny everyday

Players are spending 3 hours on Destiny everyday, says Bungie

Bungie has come out with some interesting statistics at a panel held at GDC 2015, stating that there are currently 17 million players registered on its blockbuster game, Destiny, and that players are spending 3 hours on Destiny everyday, on average, a huge number when you factor in just casual players. Even Bungie is a little surprised by the average playtime statistic – John Hopson of Bungie says that Bungie had originally only expected players to play 39 minutes each session. And what are players doing during their 3 hours of gameplay everyday? Well, according to another slide shown at the panel, Destiny players are spending most of their time playing Strikes, closely followed by Story missions, and perhaps most interestingly, the Tower social space. Bungie also divulged an interesting nugget of information during their panel, which was that they knew about the infamous loot cave before Destiny was even released, expect ...

what's coming next for Destiny

Leaked image shows what’s coming next for Destiny

Destiny is a game for the ages. While it’s been panned by reviews, and simultaneous called the best and worst game of 2014 by some, it’s irrefutable that there are still masses of people still playing the game to this date (including yours truly). So it’s pretty exciting to hear about Bungie‘s future plans for the FPS-MMO-RPG-game seeing as it is a well-known fact that they have a 10-year plan for it. The leaked image that you can see above is the subject of this particular rumour, which allegedly lays out all the game add-ons for the next year or so as well as the ones we already know about. Obviously we know about the core game, Destiny, and its two announced expansions, The Dark Below and the House of Wolves, but the image tells us that likely coming some time in 2015 will be a larger expansion called Comet ...

5 things House of Wolves changed in Destiny

Bungie: Your progress in Destiny will carry over to its sequel

It’s no secret that Bungie has made a 10-year commitment to the Destiny franchise, something which is still somewhat in its infancy with its first game. Despite this, it looks like Bungie has already started looking forward to Destiny‘s sequel and how the current game is going to affect subsequent games. Bungie Community Manager, David “DeeJ” Dague spoke with IGN and said that your progress in Destiny will carry over to its sequel. The idea behind this is that you will continue to grow and experience new things with your Guardian. “The idea is that the Guardian you have created is something you can bring along with you on that adventure. If you take a look at the way people have played other games for a long period of time, they’ve had a relationship with the same character for a very long time,” says DeeJ. It’s definitely an intriguing idea and one ...

iron banner 2.0

Iron Banner 2.0 is going to descend on Destiny very soon

The first official Iron Banner event that graced Destiny didn’t go particularly smoothly. While it touted the ability to really get a feel for how effective your gear was (something that regular Crucible multiplayer negates), players who played during the Iron Banner did not find this at all, with low level characters still able to dominate just based on skill, with plenty of other sore points to say the least. Not one to ignore community advice (and berating), Bungie has gone and made some major changes for Iron Banner 2.0, which they say will begin very soon, potentially as soon as this week. Among the many changes that have been instituted in the Iron Banner 2.0, Bungie has now made Iron Banner a level specific event, with a minimum level of 20 required to enter (though lower level characters can join as part of a Fireteam). Other notable changes include the addition of Iron ...

Destiny parody Twitter accounts

Destiny parody Twitter accounts make light of the game’s frustrations

Destiny has been out now for just over a week – that might seem like weeks for some – and plenty of players have already voiced their varied opinions. I’ll save my opinions for my review, but there appears to be a common point of frustration among most players centred around equipment and engrams after you reach level 20. As many of you know, once you reach the game’s ‘soft’ level cap of 20, you can increase your level further by acquiring more powerful gear with the “Light” attribute, a process which has turned out to be particularly gruelling, no matter the approach you take. Of course, there are some in the community who have a sense of humour about all of this, and have started their own Destiny parody Twitter accounts to give everyone a bit of a chuckle. One of those is the @LegendaryEngram account, which assumes the persona of ...

Bungie outlines Destiny content to come over the next two months

Bungie weren’t kidding when they said full reviews for Destiny in the first few weeks weren’t going encompass all that Destiny has to offer. As part of their plan to make Destiny a constantly rich and replenishing game, Bungie has outlined the Destiny content that is going to be coming in the next two months, with some of the events starting as soon as this weekend. The events include Crucible events, the start of raids in Destiny as well as teasing what looks like more Crucible events and some additional story events to round out September. October is going to see another Iron Banner event, which some people would have experienced during the Beta. Check out the full infographic Bungie posted: Community manager, Deej, also mentions that new vendors will arrive at the Tower to sell you different gear, and that there will new bounties that sound ominously unobtainable. As expected ...

5 things House of Wolves changed in Destiny

Bravo, Destiny: You’ve put the ‘game’ back in ‘gamers’

There’s something to be said about current video game culture. Without getting into the nasty controversial stuff, gamers have become increasingly reliant on game reviews to help direct their decisions and perceptions of games. Bungie‘s highly anticipated massively-multiplayer-online-shooter-thingy, Destiny, opened its doors to the masses today, and did so without even one game review to its name. Sure it was a risky plan, but I’d say its paid off. As someone who regularly reviews games, I often find myself nitpicking different things about games, whether it be graphics, story, or just general peeves. What happens is that I generally enjoy games less, and that’s not even because it’s my job – it’s more the fact having to analyse the game takes some of the fun out of it. And similarly, I think game reviews do that for general gamers as well, which can somewhat detract from the full game experience ...

Xbox can't advertise Destiny

Clever, backhanded ad points out Xbox can’t advertise Destiny

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you will have heard that this year’s (or any year’s) biggest game release, Destiny, is about to happen on September 9th (only 1 day and 12 hours left!!!). You might have noticed, however, that despite the game coming out on Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3 and PS4, advertisements everywhere have centred pretty heavily on the Sony consoles’ release, with Xbox ads almost non-existent. As we know, Bungie and Sony have cosied up closely for this release with exclusive PS4 console and game bundles, leaving Microsoft’s console out in the rain. So close is that relationship that Xbox can’t advertise Destiny at all, a point it hilariously pointed out in some ads in the U.K. this week (see above). Xbox U.K. this week posted a series of advertisements promoting a new perfume called “Destiny“. Of course, there is no perfume, but presumably the opportunity to ...

Destiny Launch gameplay trailer

The official Destiny Launch gameplay trailer takes off, makes the wait to release a little less painful

If there’s anything that was widely felt after the Destiny Beta, it was that the official release of the game on September 9th was much too far away. Now that the game is only 16 days, 8 hours and 55 minutes away (not that I’m counting), Bungie and Activision have decided to satiate our hunger for the game a little more by releasing the official Destiny Launch gameplay trailer. Check it out below: Quite a lot of the gameplay clips we’ve spotted at one time or another in some of the other Destiny trailers – as well as many of the press quotes – but for many of the faithful, they could have made a trailer made of completely re-used clips and we would still be happy. The one thing that this trailer does do is pull together all the bits of the game that they have been teasing separately for some time ...
