Xbox LIVE services in Australia

Microsoft officially announces Xbox LIVE services in Australia

The opening of Azure Data Centres in a country typically hails the arrival of local Xbox LIVE services, but Microsoft almost had us thinking that the opening of two Azure Data Centres in Sydney and Melbourne were merely token efforts in Australia. Thankfully, they aren’t, as Microsoft officially announced today the arrival of Xbox LIVE services in Australia. In a statement, Xbox Lead for Microsoft Australia, Jeremy Hinton said: “It has been a very exciting year for both Xbox and the industry. We set out to deliver amazing experiences on the Xbox One platform, and are humbled by the support and positive response from Aussie gamers to the updates over the past 12 months. Today’s announcement of Australian based Xbox Live servers addresses the most requested feature from local gamers. We are excited to give our fans the best online gaming experience available, just in time for the Holidays.” What this means in ...

Xbox draws blood for the first time: Xbox One outsold the PS4 in November

With a price cut of $50 and shopping for the Holiday season rife, it’s no surprise to see that the Xbox One has finally come out on top in the NPD‘s November report. The news that the Xbox One outsold the PS4 in November dropped just this week, and Microsoft was quick to celebrate, saying: “November set a new record for sales of Xbox One, and Xbox One was the best-selling console in the US and UK. “Response to the holiday lineup of games on Xbox One was incredible, with Xbox One fans buying more games in November in the US than any other gen eight platform and enjoying over 357 million hours of gameplay globally. “In fact, more fans logged into Xbox Live across Xbox One and Xbox 360, and enjoyed more entertainment, than any other month in the history of Xbox. We love to see the excitement from our ...

5 things House of Wolves changed in Destiny

Bungie: Your progress in Destiny will carry over to its sequel

It’s no secret that Bungie has made a 10-year commitment to the Destiny franchise, something which is still somewhat in its infancy with its first game. Despite this, it looks like Bungie has already started looking forward to Destiny‘s sequel and how the current game is going to affect subsequent games. Bungie Community Manager, David “DeeJ” Dague spoke with IGN and said that your progress in Destiny will carry over to its sequel. The idea behind this is that you will continue to grow and experience new things with your Guardian. “The idea is that the Guardian you have created is something you can bring along with you on that adventure. If you take a look at the way people have played other games for a long period of time, they’ve had a relationship with the same character for a very long time,” says DeeJ. It’s definitely an intriguing idea and one ...

Black Friday sales show that the Xbox One outsold the PS4 by large margin

We’ve known for quite some time that the PS4 is leading the Xbox One in overall console sales since their debut over a year ago – the fact that Sony claims sales dominance with each passing quarter is probably a good indicator of this. However, Microsoft has most recently cut the Kinect out of its standard bundle and slashed its prices to the point where it now costs less than the PS4 for the first time. Add in America’s most frenetic shopping day of the year, Black Friday, and now you have the perfect situation where it’s possible that the Xbox One outsold the PS4, and as it turns out, it did and by a big margin too. As the infographic above shows, the Xbox One far and away won Black Friday sales with 53% of all console sales on that fateful day. Of notable significance is the fact that 90% of ...

Game of Thrones: A Telltale Games Series

The Game of Thrones video game will launch starting on December 2nd says Telltale Games

When Telltale Games continued to promise that their latest game, the highly anticipated Game of Thrones video game, would definitely be released this year, we couldn’t help but wonder if the games studio was cutting it a little thin with just over a month left in the year. As it turns out, we had nothing to worry about as the studio today announced on its Twitter account that the game will launch starting on December 2nd and staggered depending on the platform. First cabs of the rank will be PC, Mac and PS4 on December 2nd, followed by Xbox One and Xbox 360 on December 3rd and iOS on December 4th. Perhaps unusually, the PS3 version will languish behind with a December 9th release date, and the Android version has only received a general “December” approximation. #GameOfThrones A @TelltaleGames Series Ep 1 #IronFromIce 12/2 PC/Mac; PS4 SCEA 12/3 Xbox One & 360; ...

Xbox Games with Gold

December’s Xbox Games with Gold have now been revealed

It’s the end of the month already and Microsoft knows just the thing to cheer us up: revealing December’s Xbox Games with Gold. In case you’ve never heard of Games with Gold, Microsoft has been running this initiative where Xbox Live Gold subscribers receive one or two free games a month to keep forever as long as they download within the month, or half-month. We’ll start off with the Xbox One’s offering. Starting December 1st (and ending December 31st), Xbox One Gold subscribers will be able to download and play Worms Battlegrounds for free. As the old adage says, “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”, and that applies wholeheartedly here with Battlegrounds adopting the age-old 2D, turn-based combat that saw the franchise rise to prominence in the first place. Battlegrounds will be the only game that Xbox One owners get through December, so make sure you get your money’s worth. ...

Batman: Arkham Knight gameplay footage

New Batman: Arkham Knight gameplay footage will leave you feeling weak at the knees

We always knew the next Batman game was going to be something else, but this latest Batman: Arkham Knight gameplay footage has me properly excited now. It’s always something special when WB Games and Rocksteady Studios come together, and Batman: Arkham Knight looks no different, highlighting that fluid gameplay that we’ve come to love in previous Batman games and adding in seemless cutscenes that honestly make it hard to tell the bits that are gameplay and bits that are transitions. Take a look for yourself: The gameplay video follows Batman during his infiltration of Ace Chemicals to stop The Scarecrow and save Ace Chemicals’ workers. The bits from the video that I’m floored by are the sections incorporating the Batmobile which appear to be extremely well integrated into the core gameplay. Only time will tell if this is actually how the game will play when it’s released, but it has me hopefully for yet ...

Microsoft celebrates Xbox One’s anniversary by making Sunset Overdrive free for 24 hours

Sunset Overdrive is arguably the Xbox One’s best exclusive title this year, but even if that isn’t true, it definitely is one of the more bombastic. Combining open world exploration with ridiculous weapons and an art style to die for, Sunset Overdrive has gotten some pretty rave reviews since its release last month. Which makes it all the more interesting that Microsoft is making Sunset Overdrive free for 24 hours to Xbox Live Gold members as a token of goodwill and celebrate the Xbox One’s one year anniversary. If that’s got your attention, Sunset Overdrive will be downloadable and playable from Saturday, November 22nd, 12:01am. Best of all, this is the whole game experience which means that if you purchase the game once this window is closed, you will still retain your save game and be able to continue your progress. Of course, this does mean that you have a pretty hefty ...

Game of Thrones: A Telltale Games Series

A teaser trailer drops for Game of Thrones: A Telltale Games Series

While Telltale Games gave us some juicy details about its upcoming adventure series, Game of Thrones: A Telltale Games Series, last week, today they’ve given us a teaser trailer that gives us our first official look at what the game is actually going to look like. As expected, Telltale has adopted its tried and true animated graphical style, and the trailer appears to show quite a few of the TV show’s characters as well as referring to the Forrester’s whose House you will represent during the game. Check it out: The first episode of six is called Iron from Ice and will presumably set the stage for the House of Forrester who appear to be quite fond of the ironwood trees that they live amongst. It will be interesting to see if Telltale has recruited the actual actors from the TV show to voice their video game likeness or whether ...

iron banner 2.0

Iron Banner 2.0 is going to descend on Destiny very soon

The first official Iron Banner event that graced Destiny didn’t go particularly smoothly. While it touted the ability to really get a feel for how effective your gear was (something that regular Crucible multiplayer negates), players who played during the Iron Banner did not find this at all, with low level characters still able to dominate just based on skill, with plenty of other sore points to say the least. Not one to ignore community advice (and berating), Bungie has gone and made some major changes for Iron Banner 2.0, which they say will begin very soon, potentially as soon as this week. Among the many changes that have been instituted in the Iron Banner 2.0, Bungie has now made Iron Banner a level specific event, with a minimum level of 20 required to enter (though lower level characters can join as part of a Fireteam). Other notable changes include the addition of Iron ...
