The Technomancer

New screenshots from The Technomancer explore the Red Planet

I’m already too excited about The Technomancer. In case you’re late to the party, The Technomancer is going to be a new sci-fi RPG, developed by Spiders and published by Focus Home Interactive. What is a Technomancer? Think “mage-warriors”, cybernetically augmented to take advantage of electrical-based powers. Some new screenshots from The Technomancer have been released recently which show concept art from an encounter on Mars. Check out the screenshots below: This is no doubt part of the main story where the Technomancer you assume the role of is completing his trial to become a full Technomancer. Entering into this “Old Dome” on Mars, you encounter looters and mutant creatures to see whether you are worthy to be a Technomancer. It sounds a melodramatic when I say it, but I’m still extremely excited to see where this goes – it’s not everyday that you see new game IP’s that bring fresh ideas ...

Patch 1.07 for The Witcher 3

Patch 1.07 for The Witcher 3 is dropping in the next 24 hours

As you probably already know, I’ve been playing The Witcher 3. A lot. It’s definitely my favourite game of 2015 so far, and I’m predicting it might still be by the end of it (Fallout 4 verdict pending). That’s not to say that it hasn’t had its fair share of bugs – oh boy, are there bugs – but CD Projekt RED has been hard at work getting Patch 1.07 for The Witcher 3 out the door. It seems your patience is about to pay off as CDPR community lead, Marcin Momot, announced that the new patch is going to be live within the next 24 hours. Patch 1.07 will be arriving on all platforms in the next 24h. Once it’s live everywhere, we will officially announce it. #TheWitcher — Marcin Momot (@Marcin360) July 17, 2015 Despite the small, incremental number change, Patch 1.07 actually changes a huge list of things ...

Patch 1.07 for The Witcher 3

The Witcher 3 expansions estimated to be as big as The Witcher 2

I haven’t posted in awhile and there’s a semi-decent, not-really-good-at-all reason: I’ve been playing The Witcher 3. As you’ve no doubt read, it’s probably one of the current favourites to get Best RPG honours, if not Game of the Year, thanks to its immersive, nuanced story and side quests and simply the size of the game. As was announced with the game itself, The Witcher 3 is actually due to get even bigger, with two planned expansions to be released by CD Projekt RED. Talking to Game Reactor about the length of The Witcher 3 expansions, CD Projekt’s Konrad Tomaszkiewicz said: “The first expansion will be around 10 hours and the second expansion will be around 20 hours… and I think it’s possible that they will be bigger. “It’s always like this (that when we plan some time or hours, it’s twice or something like this), but I’m not promising anything right ...

Minecraft: Story Mode - A Telltale Game Series

First trailer drops for Minecraft: Story Mode – A Telltale Game Series

We were a little skeptical when we first heard about Minecraft: Story Mode – A Telltale Game Series – a marriage of this generation’s best video game story teller and this gaming era’s biggest time sink for gamers of all ages didn’t really seem like something that should’ve fitted together. Yet, after watching the very first trailer for Minecraft: Story Mode unveiled at MineCon, I can safely say that I am very intrigued. Check out the trailer for yourself below: While this will be the first time in a long time that Telltale Games hasn’t used its signature animation in a video game, Minecraft: Story Mode still looks like it will use the same storytelling format of heavy cutscenes with player input where choice is needed. As to whether Minecraft: Story Mode fits into the Minecraft world as it is today, CEO of Telltale Games, Kevin Bruner says: “We’ve worked closely with the ...

Xbox One backwards compatibility

Sony’s Shuhei Yoshida calls Xbox One backwards compatibility “interesting”

Although most of the world has decided (for reasons unknown to yours truly) that Sony had the better press conference at E3 2015, Microsoft dealt a sizable blow to Sony with its announcement of Xbox One backwards compatibility. Considering the Xbox 360‘s swathes of games, that’s actually a formidable extra library that the Xbox One has just acquired. And Sony’s response is? “Interesting,” Sony’s Shuhei Yoshida says. To illustrate just what a feat Microsoft has accomplished with the Xbox One backwards compatibility, Yoshida says that “Backward compatibility is hard. I won’t say we’ll never do it, but it’s not an easy thing to do. If it was easy we would have done that,” which sounds awfully like a backhanded compliment. Furthermore, backwards compatibility doesn’t work with Sony’s current PlayStation Now model which makes you pay a subscription to play PS3 games which are featured in its library. We get the feeling that Sony wasn’t expecting ...

Mirror's Edge Catalyst

Mirror’s Edge Catalyst isn’t going to force gun gameplay on you this time

The original Mirror’s Edge game was a masterpiece of parkour and immersive first-person action sequences. It would have been perfect, except that EA and DICE decided that just because the enemies had guns, it meant you should be able to wield them too. As you can probably see, given that Mirror’s Edge was a parkour-first game, the tacked on gun gameplay felt out of place, and in its next chapter, Mirror’s Edge Catalyst (announced at E3 2015 yesterday), EA has clarified that gun gameplay, at least for protagonist Faith, has been removed from the game. In an interview with Polygon today, senior producer Sara Jansson gave a few reasons for this: “In Mirror’s Edge Catalyst, you won’t be using any guns at all. We’ve completely removed that aspect of the game. You can’t even pick them up.” “Faith will fight, but she doesn’t kill. Now the fighting is more of an extension of ...

backwards compatibility for the Xbox One

Microsoft announces backwards compatibility for the Xbox One at E3 2015

What a glorious, glorious day it was for current (and future) Xbox One owners. Microsoft‘s E3 2015 press conference happened earlier today and it dropped a huge bombshell: backwards compatibility for the Xbox One is going to be a reality. Xbox boss Phil Spencer, who announced the new functionality, said that it will be free to use as long as you own the Xbox 360 game yourself – those dusty libraries of Xbox 360 games aren’t going to go to waste after all. Depending on your game format, you’ll be able to download existing games in your library, or if you have discs, insert the discs and presumably install them that way. With 100 games to be supported when the features launches “this fall” and many more to be added to the library in the near future, this is surely a sure sign that Xbox One will be the more popular ...

Fallout 4 announcement

Fallout 4 announcement coming on June 3rd, launching to PC, current and old-gen consoles

I’ve been dying to hear the words “Fallout 4 announcement” for far too long now, but it appears the wait is almost over. On the Bethesda hosted Fallout website, a “Please Stand By” splash can be seen counting down towards zero – at the time of writing there is just over 3 hours left before what is presumably the official announcement of a new Fallout game, which is expected to be named Fallout 4. This theory has been bolstered after Reddit user ChakiDrH went through Bethesda’s website source code and dug out some interested tidbits, chief among which is that the website’s domain is for Fallout 4. Other useful details include pre-order links for the game and exist for PC, PS4, Xbox One, and also older gen consoles, PS3 and Xbox 360. It’s been 7 years since Fallout 3 and the Fallout franchise’s cultish following has been reaching a fever pitch over ...

Xbox 360 games to Xbox One

I like where this is going: Phil Spencer talks bringing more Xbox 360 games to Xbox One

By now, hoping for backwards compatibility on a new video game consoles is pretty much a moot point. Thankfully, Microsoft and Sony have instead started to bring some of its titles from old consoles to next-gen consoles, and we’re excited to see where this goes. On the topic of bringing more Xbox 360 games to Xbox One specifically, Xbox boss Phil Spencer has revealed that he’s very open to the idea this. “Lots of 360 games I’d like to bring to XB1. Only so much time and want to focus on making new games. Not easy tradeoffs.” You can kind of understand where Spencer is coming from, especially considering the line-up that is planned for the rest of the year. Even so, we can’t help but want more of the classics from the Xbox 360 – Viva Pinata anyone? What would you think about having more Xbox 360 games brought to Xbox ...
