Blizzard has cancelled Titan

Another Blizzard game bites the dust: Blizzard has cancelled Titan MMO after 7 years

Video game company, Blizzard, has a long history of creating amazing games which includes perhaps most famously (or infamously) MMO game World of Warcraft. WoW, as it is commonly known as, has been incredibly successful for Blizzard, so it’s no surprise that they have been working on another MMO in the shadows for some time now, seven years in fact, a project that has only been known as Project Titan – even though it was never announced officially. Well, that light has all but been snuffed out as Blizzard has cancelled Titan after failing to “find the fun” during the game’s development. And how much to failing to “find the fun” end up costing Blizzard? Analysts are estimating the damage to the company to be up to $50 million. But in the face of potentially damaging their brand, a shift like this could end up being priceless for Blizzard’s reputation. Chris Metzen, ...

Dragon Ball Xenoverse

Called it: Dragon Ball Xenoverse will let you customize your very own Dragon Ball Z character

In June this year, a series of screenshots from Bandai Namco‘s latest Dragon Ball game, Dragon Ball Xenoverse, were released into the wild and they seemed to focus on a character not featured in any of the Dragon Ball lore. With Bandai Namco saying that Xenoverse was going to “rewrite DRAGON BALL history as we know it”, much of the speculation suggested a new character was about to be introduced into the anime universe. My opinion was slightly different as it seemed the unknown character bore hallmarks from several different characters in the Dragon Ball universe, suggesting that Xenoverse was going to introduce instead customizable characters. That theory has now been confirmed at the Tokyo Game Show after Masahiro Kashino of developer Dimps Corporation spoke about the game.  The premise for Dragon Ball Xenoverse is that the history of Dragon Ball has been altered – in Goku and Piccolo’s battle with Raditz, Piccolo’s ...

Battlefield 4 ‘Final Stand’ teaser video shows off maps, a hover tank and secret bases in the Mountains

Since the launch of Battlefield 4 we have seen 4 of the DLC packages make their way to consumers. The most recent was Dragons Teeth. With that expansion players found four new game maps, a new game mode and the R.A.W.R. The final DLC planned for Battlefield 4 is Final Stand. Earlier leaks and chatter have pegged it for an October release, but the Battlefield website continues to keep it listed as a TBD (to be determined.) A ultra short, 9 second, teaser video went up on the Battlefield Facebook page with a line that reads, “Ready for the future?”   Post by Battlefield.   As you can see from their message, the full trailer was set to be released at 9 a.m. this morning and they delivered. Final Stand will take place in Russia on an Arctic landscape. The back story lets us know that the area is a ...

This War of Mine

My First Hour Playing: This War of Mine preview on PC

Often, I know exactly how I’m going to feel about a game after just watching a trailer – some set my pulse racing, others make me feel like they just revealed their whole hand in a high stakes Poker match, and others make me feel such intrigue that I get extremely excited about it. The last emotion is exactly how I felt after watching the trailer for 11 bit studios‘ newest game, This War of Mine. If 11 bit studios sounds familiar, that’s because they are the studio behind the award winning Anomaly strategy game series, and This War of Mine is a foray away from that frenetic gameplay with something a little deeper, and boy, have they nailed it. I was fortunate enough to get to try a preview build of This War of Mine, and I’ll be sharing my thoughts about it below. Keep in mind though that this is ...

That’s one way to do it: The Sims 4 trolls pirates with gameplay pixellation

Developers and publishers have an ongoing fight with piracy, and the search for a meaningful way to combat the practice needs to be subtle and nuanced in a way that doesn’t turn people away completely. With the latest entry in EA and Maxis‘ The Sims franchise, The Sims 4, it seems the method of choice is to pixellate all the graphics in the game, effectively making the game unplayable, unless you enjoy playing the game in graphics that predate even the first The Sims game in 2000. The irony of the situation is that people affected by this “bug” go on to forums to ask if anybody else has experienced the issue, which makes it incredibly easy to separate the pirates from the rest of the legitimate crowd. I quite like a solution like this to deter pirates, and while it may not ultimately be the best solution to solving the ...

Darkwood Alpha on PC

My First Hour Playing: Darkwood Alpha on PC

I’m really not a fan of horror games, but there are a number of indie survival horror titles that have caught my eye of late. One of these was of course The Forest (which I reviewed here) and another has been Darkwood developed by Acid Wizard Studio. The thing in particular that drew my attention was its unique gameplay style: top-down with your character only able to see within a cone’s area in front of you. While you can ‘see’ the rest of the map while you’re not looking in that direction, things can invariably appear there when you aren’t looking, making for a very creepy, very frightening game. I was lucky enough to play Alpha 1.3 of Darkwood, and below are my thoughts of the game. The Story While the overall genre of Darkwood is survival horror, there is an underlying narrative to the game which I’ve yet to really figure ...

GameStop Labor day sale

GameStop’s Labor Day Sale puts Assassin’s Creed IV, Battlefield 4 and others for under $15

Labor Day often ignites sales of all types. From cars, to beds, to electronics and games. Some sales are better than others, while other sales aren’t really sales at all. In the pursuit of the best deal out there, I came across a pretty stellar one at GameStop right now for digital download versions of some pretty hot PC titles. I haven’t personally seen Battlefield 4 or Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag below $19.99. While they are just for the main game and don’t include the DLC packages, it is still a pretty stellar deal to get you started while you wait for the additional content to hit new rock bottom prices. The list of games on sale for the Labor Day weekend tops out at 90 different titles. They have Far Cry for $7.49, Rocksmith 2014 for $14.99 and Tomb Raider for $4.99 to round out the top five ...

New NBA 2K15 trailer coins the term ‘Yakkem’

The NBA 2K series has stood head and shoulders above the competition when it comes to basketball simulation games for years now and their annual offering, NBA 2K15, is about to release, looking pretty snazzy in its first full trailer. Check it out below: Showing snippets of ESPN favourites, Ernie Johnson and the original Superman, Shaquille O’Neal, the video also delves into some delicious looking gameplay with character models bordering on uncanny. Whether the dynamic duo will feature just in pre- and post-game analyses of the game, or throughout it as well, remains to be seen. The game also focuses much of its snippets on cover athlete, last year’s MVP, Kevin Durant of the Oklahoma City Thunder. The NBA 2K series goes through intense scrutiny every year, partly because they are so far ahead of their direct competitor, the NBA Live series by EA Sports, and partly because the game is already ...

Robin Williams will live on in World of Warcraft

A Friend Like Me: Robin Williams will live on in World of Warcraft

For many of us, the passing of Robin Williams is still fresh on our minds, and while many of us never knew him personally, his acting career affected all our lives in one way or another. So when people began to ask Blizzard if they could include a NPC (Non-Playable Character) in the latest expansion of World of Warcraft, Blizzard may have taken that request very seriously. It looks very possible that Robin Williams will live on in World of Warcraft, with the above character model being found among the files of the Warlords of Draenor expansion. The model is labelled “Robin” and looks like a very familiar genie, presumably celebrating one Williams’ most popular roles as the Genie in the animated film, Aladdin. While we don’t know what the “Robin” NPC will say, it seems like it would be a waste not to give it an endless supply of Williams’ most iconic lines. There also appear ...
