Theme Hospital

Origin updates the FREE “On the House” game with Theme Hospital

EA’s game hub, Origins, is ripe with betas, free-to-play titles, and the occasionally switched out ‘On The House’ title. The last title that made its way to the freebie section was a classic, Sim City 2000 Special Edition. Hard to not snag that one for free. It looks like EA has updated the page today with a new title for users to snag at no charge with Theme Hospital. It isn’t Battlefield 4 or Titanfall, but Theme Hospital servers its purpose, especially at the price of free. In a nutshell it is a sim style game where you design, manage and maintain a hi-tech hospital in an attempt to save lives and make cash. It isn’t a highly serious game as there is quit a bit of humor mixed in, like a patient with KingComplex who dresses like Elvis. Theme Hospital made its first debut back in March of 1997 ...

Blizzard sending epic statue to veteran World of Warcraft players as part of 10-year celebrations

In November last year, probably the biggest and best known massively multiplayer online game, World of Warcraft, turned 10 years old. As part of its celebrations of the feat, Blizzard Entertainment has started sending gifts to veteran World of Warcraft players who have been around for the whole 10 years, and the gift is nothing short of amazing.  Yes, it’s a bronzed, scaled-down orc statue, the same one that sits outside the Blizzard offices and on the bottom of the statue are emblazoned the words: The orc statue is a constant presence in our life at Blizzard entertainment. It’s where we meet to talk, to eat, to celebrate. As we celebrate ten years of World of Warcraft, we present this token of appreciation to you, stalwart adventurer. Thank you for being a constant presence in our lives as we adventure together. If you are eligible for the gift, you should have been contacted ...

pirate Hotline Miami 2

Dev tells Australians to pirate Hotline Miami 2 if game is banned

You may have heard recently that the Australia Classification Board has refused to classify indie game Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number for sale in Australia over a scene in the game with an implied rape scene. Developer Dennaton Games later responded, saying the ACB has “stretched the facts”, and one of its devs Jonatan “Cactus” Söderström has gone on record on Reddit telling people to pirate Hotline Miami 2 if the game does not eventually come out in Australia in PC, PS4 and PSVita. “If it ends up not being released in Australia, just pirate it after release. No need to send us any money, just enjoy the game!” says Söderström. This isn’t the first time that Dennaton Games has run foul of the ACB after the first Hotline Miami took quite some time to be granted a MA15+ rating. Since then, a R18+ rating has been instituted by the ACB, however it still seems to ...

Battlefield Hardline open beta on the horizon for all platforms

Battlefield Hardline has been a hit and miss topic of discussion among fans and haters of the Battlefield franchise. Plenty called out EA and Dice for attempting to make a whole new title to raise profits when it should just be a DLC for Battlefield 4. While I can understand some of the arguments, they really are negated by the fact that the title isn’t a war game and has a totally different story mode that isn’t even being handled by either, but by Visceral games. All of that can easily go into a whole new article, now the important bit of information is that there is an open beta close at hand that will cover all gaming platforms that the title will release for when it officially comes out March 17th. I had a rather fun time on the first PC beta. Even though the modes and maps were ...

New record for number of concurrent Steam users as numbers hit over 8.5 million

If you’re any kind of a PC gamer, it’s virtually impossible to avoid Steam, Valve‘s one-stop service for pretty much all games. And with the Holiday Season still in full swing in some places, it’s not surprising to see the previous record for concurrent Steam users get smashed just a few days into the New Year. The previous record occurred June 2014 when 8,020,700 people were seen using the service at the same time, but just a few days past on January 2nd when 8,500,245 people were logged being online. These numbers are a far cry from analysts predicting the end of PC gaming a few years ago as the community is clearly still alive and well. A big factor for those numbers are likely the combination of the Steam sales that have recently just ended and people logging on to play those games lest they remain unplayed until the next sale. The ...

Battlefield 4 final stand

Confirmed: Battlefield 4 Final Stand is not the end of the road

There was a lot of speculation surrounding a possible sixth DLC (downloadable content) package for Battlefield 4. Much of it was fueled by a few clues in the Final Stand update that recently went public. The clue that causing the commotion was from a “Uprise” dogtag discovered in the Community Test Environment. According to Gamerant that tag is dedicated represents the company that makes Battlelog. While that would rule out the sixth installment being “Uprise” it doesn’t rule out Battlefield 4’s future. A new post has been published to users Battlelog page giving little to no information about its future other than it has one. The title simply says “Battlefield 4 and the Road Ahead.” The company commends the help that users have given to them through the community Test Environment and that they had lots of fun with everyone. From there they offer up a small break with another ...

This War of Mine

This War of Mine managed to recuperate its development costs in just two days

You may remember our coverage of This War of Mine, a super bleak, war-time survival game from 11 bit studios, which was somewhat of an about face for the developer considering their previous best-known game has been the Anomaly series. We loved it despite how much of an emotional toll it takes to play it, and it appears 11 bit studio’s efforts have been paid back in kind after it has been reported This War of Mine managed to recuperate its development costs in just two days. And it’s not just monetary success that This War of Mine is enjoying as 11 bit senior writer, Pawel Miechowski elaborates: “Of course we’re happy with commercial success, but most of all we are happy with great feedback from gamers and from reviewers. “Games are all around us since decades so the creators and community perceive them as natural/popular form of storytelling. And so you ...
