DroidBox T8 Mini Android TV Box Review

The DroidBOX T8 Mini is an Android powered TV Set top box running Android 5.1.1.  The device is one of many options available from the British company trying to compete with the saturation of Chinese Android TV boxes release over the last few years. DroidBOX have added plenty of nice features to make it stand out from the rest of the crowd and we’ll get into those in more detail in the full review below. One nice feature DroidBOX have included is the ability to handle some of the Android TV apps (the “lean back” TV versions) and even provide some of these via their own App Store.  To make things easier to navigate, DroidBOX developed their own custom launcher designed to work with a simple cursor based remote control.  Finally, the DroidBOX T8 Mini can dual-boot into an Openelec environment which is a custom version of Kodi 16.1 designed to ...

Samson Meteor M2 Multimedia Speaker System

CES 2015: The Samson Meteor M2 Multimedia Speaker System looks retro and modern at the same time

So many cool and wonderful things come out during CES that it’s almost too difficult to cover it all. One thing that we did notice and had to cover at CES 2015 though was the Samson Meteor M2 Multimedia Speaker System, which looks to combine equal parts retro and modern design to provide an elegant look to any computer or multimedia setup. Of course, the most striking thing about these speakers are their exterior, which is die cast from solid zinc giving it a great look but also great durability, but underneath packs some serious power as well with two 2.5-inch drivers and rear-ported passive radiators. If you’ve never heard of the name Samson before, they are one of the biggest names in professional audio solutions, particularly microphones, so it’s no surprise that their speakers are designed to look like microphones of the past. But custom digital signal processing also keeps ...

Walkera QR X350 PRO Motor Failure

Drone Crash: Walkera QR X350 Pro Motor Failure at about 400ft

I’m trying to test out the drone and see what it can do so I can write a full review for you guys but it doesn’t help if the motor fails on my Walkera QR X350 Pro at about 400 feet and drops to the ground. I just wanted to share this slight hiccup we just had today.  We’ve sent an email to Walkera to try and work out what could have possibly caused this failure but that still doesn’t help when we have a snapped landing gear and Walkera G-2D Gimbal camera mount. Here the video for your amusement.  Skip to the end if you just want to see the failure and the drone drop from the skies.

Drones filmed the Sydney fireworks

Happy New Year: Drones filmed the Sydney fireworks for the first time

Happy New Year to all our readers! As the 1st of January 2015 ticks over around the world, spectacular celebrations have commenced, many involving copious amounts of fireworks. One of the stalwart sources of amazing fireworks displays (and I feel I can say this without seeming biased) is Sydney, Australia, who’s fireworks display is typified by the launching of walls of fire from the iconic Sydney Harbour Bridge. While this display is typically filmed with more conventional methods, like helicopters and blimps, this year, drones filmed the Sydney fireworks, some of which were up to 1000 ft above Sydney Harbour. Check out some of the amazing footage in the video below: It’s impressive stuff, particularly the couple of shots that were taken by drones from basically inside or very close to the explosion of fireworks – I’m pretty sure one drone was hit too from the looks of it. This was all made possible by Rotor ...

LG Display Art Slim

LG Display announces the ‘Art Slim’ UHD LCD panel, is 75% thinner and 25% lighter

We all want super slim products in our lives. From our ultra thin smartphones and tablets to our super thin TVs. It seems like just yesterday that huge boxes were sitting on equally large entertainment centers. Now we are mounting our flat screens to our walls, and in some cases, our ceilings. The thickness of the modern-day TV is getting even thinner with the announcement of a new LG Display UHD LCD panel, the Art Slim. The Art Slim brings the “TV like a Picture frame” thickness to our living-rooms with some pretty outstanding sounding dimensions. A TV sporting a 55-inch UHD panel comes in at just 7.5mm thick. Compare that to a typical flat panel LCD that is around 30mm thick. The thickness reduction also makes this super light at 10.4kgs. For us Americans that translates to 0.29 inches and almost 23 pounds. Bump the screen size to 65-inches and it ...

Polk Audio Striker ZX Xbox One Gaming Headset Review

Polk Audio Striker Zx Xbox One Gaming Headset Review: Just how good is Polk’s entry level headset?

Polk Audio isn’t the biggest name in gaming audio yet, but they’re trying their hardest to make the big time. Their latest crusade is being led by the Polk Audio Striker Zx, an entry-level gaming headset for the Xbox One that sits squarely at the bottom of their food chain, superceded only by Polk’s more expensive offering, the 4 Shot. Decked with bright coloured plastic, the Striker Zx looks every part the basic gamer’s headset, but is there more than meets the eye? Let’s check it out.           What’s in the box In the box, you’ll find the headset itself, a micro-USB which can be used to help update your controller when you first plug in your headset, and the Xbox One headset adapter which will enable stereo sound and headset capabilities for your Striker Zx. It’s pretty bare bones, and for $89.95 USD, it probably should ...

The world is going drone crazy and every man and his dog is coming out with the next best Quadcopter. With companies such as Google working on their own projects and Amazon talking about using drones as a delivery mechanism, It’s understandable why. There’s a new guy on the block called xCraft who have come up with a pretty cool looking Quadcopter that also acts a high speed forwarding flying X-Wing type vehicle.  Think X-Wings in Starwars.
