Clever, backhanded ad points out Xbox can’t advertise Destiny

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you will have heard that this year’s (or any year’s) biggest game release, Destiny, is about to happen on September 9th (only 1 day and 12 hours left!!!). You might have noticed, however, that despite the game coming out on Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3 and PS4, advertisements everywhere have centred pretty heavily on the Sony consoles’ release, with Xbox ads almost non-existent. As we know, Bungie and Sony have cosied up closely for this release with exclusive PS4 console and game bundles, leaving Microsoft’s console out in the rain. So close is that relationship that Xbox can’t advertise Destiny at all, a point it hilariously pointed out in some ads in the U.K. this week (see above).

Xbox can't advertise Destiny
Xbox U.K. this week posted a series of advertisements promoting a new perfume called “Destiny“. Of course, there is no perfume, but presumably the opportunity to cleverly advertise the biggest game release of the year was not lost on Xbox U.K. and we can definitely appreciate such a clever advertising attempt, not that many of us need it though. It’s interesting that these ads are more of a backhanded comment at publiser Activision, rather than Sony, for Destiny’s collaborative release – we wonder if Sony U.K. will have a retort for Microsoft and EA’s exclusive collaborations in the future.

Destiny will release on September 9th for Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3, and PS4.
